STATION is delighted to present codice chronicles + vibration translations by Tomislav Nikolic, the artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.

This exhibition presents two new bodies of work that delve deeper into the artist’s ongoing exploration of symbolic systems and metaphysical inquiry. The word ‘codice’ evokes an ancient system of communication; an idea that deeply resonates with Nikolic’s practice, which often explores how humans attempt to decode and assign meaning to forces beyond our comprehension. 

Nikolic produces numerous layers of transparent colour washes on canvas to create paintings that contain both luminosity and depth. Through the use of layering, his colour field works contain a reflective element that enables the viewer to partake in their radiance, offset by the carefully chosen artist frames. This unique technique for combining marble dust with pigments, allows the work to appear simultaneously opaque and translucent.
